You don't have to navigate this alone.
The Becoming Agency was founded by Dr. Joshua Duncan — therapist, speaker, and TEDx presenter — on a simple conviction: healing happens in relationship. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or in a season you didn't choose, our licensed counselors meet you where you are and walk with you toward who you're becoming.

The people walking with you.
At The Becoming Agency, clinical skill matters — but so does the human on the other side of the room. Our team blends licensed expertise with the kind of presence that helps you feel safe enough to do the work.
Care rooted in something deeper.
Three guiding ideas shape how we show up — for our clients, for each other, and for the work.
Journeying with people in unbecoming to become.
Rebuilding the inner self — mind, body, soul, and spirit.
"Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers."
For clients who want it, we integrate faith-based perspectives into care. For those who don't, we offer the same skilled support without it. Both paths are welcome here.
8 movements to unbecoming to become.
Healing isn't linear, but it does have shape. Over years of clinical and pastoral work, we've identified eight movements that mark the metamorphic path from stuck to becoming — not as a rigid formula, but as a living map.
"Before we can change, we have to know what's actually there."
Uncover Your Core
"Before we can change, we have to know what's actually there."
We begin by exploring what lies beneath the surface—our learned patterns, false identities, and internal narratives. Before growth can occur, we must gain awareness of who we’ve become and why. This movement invites honest reflection to uncover the beliefs and experiences that have shaped how we see ourselves and the world.
Life as it has been—consuming, crawling, doing what it was taught.
Unlearn Limiting Patterns
"Transformation begins with release."
Transformation begins with release. Here, we intentionally let go of fear, shame, perfectionism, and habits that no longer serve our wellbeing. Unlearning isn’t losing who we are—it’s rediscovering what’s true beneath the layers of conditioning and expectation.
The caterpillar stops eating and lets go of the only way of living it has known.
Heal to Transform
"Healing bridges the gap between who we were and who we are becoming."
Healing bridges the gap between who we were and who we are becoming. This movement focuses on restoration—mentally, emotionally, physically, and relationally. As we integrate past experiences, we begin to reframe setbacks as lessons, draw strength from vulnerability, and align with a renewed sense of purpose.
The larval body breaks down—the old structure taken apart so it can be remade.
Become Through Practice
"Becoming requires intention."
Becoming requires intention. In this movement, we develop new habits that reinforce who we are becoming—gratitude, mindfulness, boundaries, resilience, and authentic connection. These daily practices cultivate emotional balance and empower sustainable growth.
The butterfly's body is built from cells that were there all along.
Sustain the Transformation
"Becoming is an ongoing process, not a destination."
Becoming is an ongoing process, not a destination. This movement is about maintaining momentum through community, self-awareness, accountability, and rhythm. As we live out our growth, we learn to sustain transformation and model it for others through how we live, love, and lead.
It emerges with wet wings and must hang still and let them harden before flight.
Integrate the New Way
"Integration makes the change whole."
Integration makes the change whole. The new way stops being something we do in certain rooms and becomes one coherent way of being—the same self at home, at work, in private, and in public. We bring identity, body, relationships, and practice into alignment until healing is no longer performed but simply lived.
Body and wings become one working creature—fully a butterfly in every part.
Multiply the Life
"What has been formed in us is meant to be given away."
What has been formed in us is meant to be given away. In this movement we pour into others—not to make copies of ourselves, but to help them become who they truly are. We mentor, equip, and release, reproducing life-giving truth without control, so transformation extends beyond us.
It flies, feeds, pollinates, and lays eggs—it gives life away.
Initiate a New Beginning
"Becoming is a spiral, not a finish line."
Becoming is a spiral, not a finish line. From integrated, tested ground we step into a new assignment or season—carrying forward the wisdom, boundaries, and relationships we've gained. We don't start over from zero; we begin again, wiser, with greater capacity and grace.
A new cycle begins from transformed ground.
It dissolves—it does not improve.
The caterpillar never grows faster legs or a prettier shell. It breaks down completely and is remade into a creature that flies instead of crawls—de-identification from the caterpillar, re-identification with the butterfly.
The butterfly was coded in all along.
The imaginal cells that build the butterfly are present in the caterpillar from the beginning—never added, only uncovered (Gen 1:26–27). The chrysalis in the logo is Movement 3—the hidden dissolving at the heart of the mark.
